Laser Hair Removal

Mortifying waxing experiences. Goopy at-home creams. Last-minute bikini season shaving. When it comes to removing unwanted body hair, you’ve put yourself through the ringer. But with our laser hair removal treatment, you’ll say goodbye to everyday shaving and get used to skin that’s smooth and stubble free. At Defy Nature, quite simply, we know what works. Our medical professionals ensure that our methods and training programs exceed industry standards, and we’re constantly evolving to meet our clients’ needs. So you can be confident you’re getting the safest, most effective treatment at the best possible value. After completing the treatment, clients describe the experience as nothing short of a lifestyle change; most can’t believe they ever spent so much time and money bothering with razors, creams or waxing

If you’re used to shaving, waxing or bleaching your body hair, then you may be wondering what all the buzz is about laser hair removal? According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic (ASAPS), this procedure can replace other methods of removing hair, leaving long-lasting results that are less time consuming than shaving and less painful than waxing. If you’re considering laser hair removal as an option, here are some things to keep in mind:

How does laser hair removal work?

The idea of a laser beam may seem intimidating when talking about such an intimate topic, but the reality is that laser hair removal is a highly advanced and safe way to reduce hair growth. Here at Defy Nature, we use a low-energy laser beam to pass through the skin. The beam will be attracted to the pigment of hair follicles, which is why the procedure is not as effective with gray/white hair. The energy from the beam will pass down the hair shaft until it’s absorbed by actively growing hair follicles, disabling the follicles in the deeper layers of the skin.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

If you’ve undergone electrolysis before, you might assume that laser hair removal is a painful experience, but in reality, patients who elect to go through with this procedure should only experience temporary pain – like a hot snap. In fact, patients aren’t even put under anesthesia in most circumstances. If you wax 4-6 times a year, imagine having laser hair removal 6 times and being almost hair free.

Who gets laser hair removal?

The procedure can be used by almost anyone who has hair growing in places they’d prefer were bare. It’s not just for women – men who grow hair on their back, shoulders or other parts of the body may want to consider undergoing laser hair removal, as well.Call us for a free consultation and find out where you think you’d like your treatment targeted, we will be able to tell you whether or not you’re a good candidate.

How long does laser hair removal take?

The length of a hair removal treatment is largely dictated by how much hair is being removed and where it is located on the body. Individual treatments can take anywhere from several minutes to a few hours. However, patients may need to return for several treatments, as laser hair removal only targets actively growing hair, and not all hair on the body grows at the same time.

Face and Leg Vein Reduction

You can be free of leg veins, blue facial veins, and hemangiomas with the newest GentleMax family of lasers. Our medical laser provides safe and effective nonsurgical treatment for the removal of spider veins in a series of brief pulses; light energy is delivered through a special handpiece to the targeted vein. The heat absorption causes a coagulation of the blood vessel, which is subsequently absorbed by your body. This is a relatively simple procedure that can be performed safely and effectively to remove unsightly, painful spider veins. This technology makes the treatment of spider veins effective and comfortable. The laser’s long pulse duration targets blood vessels, resulting in a gentle heating effect and uniform spider vein removal. The spider veins are effectively removed in one or two sessions and there is no recovery time. Although there may be local discomfort with this procedure, it will fade within 2-3 minutes. In most cases, 50%-70% of the treated vessels will be gone for good after a series of treatments.

Pigmentation-GentleMax Laser

Rid yourself of melasma, cafe-au-lait, freckles, sun damage and solar lentigines with our GentleMax laser. Lasers have been used for many years for a variety of medical cosmetic procedures, including treatment of facial and leg veins, age spots and rejuvenating the skin of the face. Lasers offer a noninvasive way to erase or lighten those unwanted dark spots on the face or body due to aging and sun exposure. Freckles and age spots are the most common concerns, but some types of pigmented birthmarks respond well to lasers, also. Laser light treatment enables removal of pigmented lesions with a low risk of scarring.

Over the years, skin naturally loses collagen and shows signs of life’s ups and downs. Whether you have sun damage, acne scars or fine lines and wrinkles, Defy Nature’s eMatrix sublative rejuvenation treatment brightens, balances and restores youthful skin from the inside out. eMatrix technology provides a state-of-the-art sublative rejuvenation treatment. Featured recently on The Rachael Ray Show and The Doctors (watch the video here), this treatment is a popular alternative to facelifts and skin rejuvenation. Instead of invasive surgery, which can be painful and often includes lengthy recovery time, eMatrix uses powerful energy. This energy facilitates radio-frequency waves to pass through the top layer of the skin and heat cells below the surface, reducing the likelihood of damaging the health surrounding tissue, while providing maximum results. The heat then triggers a reaction, resulting in the production of your skin’s own natural collagen. Clients experience improvement in the appearance of wrinkles, scars, age spots and other skin irregularities, while also seeing their skin regain its elasticity through collagen production. Skin resurfacing results typically appear immediately after the first visit and can continue for up to a year because eMatrix treatment actually stimulates cell renewal.

Aging is something we all have to deal with. But the good news is today, everyone is now living longer and we can choose to look younger without going through painful and expensive surgery. Here at Defy Nature, we can make that possible! We have many options for slowing down the aging process. Our qualified, friendly staff can offer you many solutions for smoothing out your unwanted fine lines, removing those crow’s feet, improving your skin’s elasticity, treating acne scarring, face veins, lip plumping, age spots and much more. You will actually see results after just one treatment. No kidding!

Restylane and Perlane

Restylane® products are safe and natural dermal fillers that restore volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds. Made of a substance called hyaluronic acid (a natural and very important part of skin structure), Restylane’s job is to replace the natural hyaluronic acid that diminishes with age – or was insufficient to begin with, as is the case with thin lips.

Why is hyaluronic acid important?

Young skin is smooth and elastic and contains a large amount of hyaluronic acid that helps the skin look healthy – almost like gelatin that’s been in the refrigerator. As we grow older, the ability of your skin to produce this “youth” component decreases. What used to be firm gelatin is now almost melting gelatin.

Since hyaluronic acid helps to bind water, the ability of the skin to retain water also declines with age. As a result, your skin becomes drier, thinner and less able to restore itself. The loss of skin fullness also means your skin becomes looser. This leads to wrinkling and an older appearance.
Lots of hyaluronic acid = Youthful skin appearance

The lower layer of your skin, the dermis, contains two protein fibers – collagen and elastin. These fibers support many of the active structures found in the dermal layer of your skin, things like hair follicles, oil glands, sweat glands and blood vessels. You can think of the fibers like the inner walls of a house. When the walls weaken, things start to sag.

When you’re young, your body keeps everything hydrated by floating these proteins and skin structures in an “ocean” of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid holds 1000 times its own weight in water, so it’s an incredible support molecule that helps keep your skin looking young.

Once there is decreased hydration, which happens to all of us as we get older, all these little components weaken and the skin structures lose flexibility. With time and exposure to things like sun, smoking, pollution, we lose all three – the collagen, elastin and that vital hyaluronic acid “ocean.” What we get as a replacement are wrinkles and lines and skin that’s lost much of its bounce-back and firmness.

Nasha gel
Recreating lost Hyaluronic Acid

Recent advances in technology have made it possible to recreate this hyaluronic acid in a lab and stabilize it to make it more long lasting. It is known as NASHA gel–NonAnimal-derived Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid–and it enables us to instantly add back what we’ve lost in a simple quick office procedure.

Hyaluronic acid is such an important part of hydration that it exists in the same form in almost all species on Earth and has been around since the dinosaurs. And now, with these recent remarkable scientific advances, you can essentially stop in and ‘get a refill’ whenever you need it!

How does Restylane work?

Restylane, and the denser version called Perlane®, are identical content cosmetic dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in your body. The hyaluronic acid also creates volume in your face, giving it a healthy, youthful appearance. Perlane is used for deeper-planed injections, where more subdermal support is required and in areas under the eye where surface injections might be noticeable. Perlane is sometimes used as a “base” filler that is then topped with a less-dense filler such as Restylane or Juvederm.

When Restylane is injected directly into areas where the body’s support structures have been weakened,
depressions can be raised to the level of surrounding skin. This smoothes and minimizes facial lines and
most types of scars. In addition, skin texture is improved and has a softer and more even tone. See how
the use of Restylane can improve your looks

Watch this segment of Oprah and see her talk about Restylane

How is a Restylane procedure performed?

Restylane is injected directly into your skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle or with a tiny flexible cannula, resulting in minimal discomfort. The integration of lidocaine further reduces any potential discomfort. The procedure is simple and quick, and results are practically instantaneous. A “lip block” may be used before the Restylane treatment to optimize your comfort during the short procedure if your treatment is in areas such as the lips or around the mouth. Numbing cream is used for other facial areas. Read about the new Micro-Cannula “needle-less” injection technique.

A Restylane treatment will actually fill the depressions in your skin and smooth out the skin’s surface, resulting in the
appearance of a more youthful complexion.

Where can Restylane be used?

  • – the area between the eyebrows
  • – the nasolabial folds
  • – the area around the mouth
  • – lip border definition
  • – fuller lips
  • – jowl area
Can I use Restylane with Botox?

Yes, and in many cases, we will recommend this wrinkle-fighting technique. By preventing extreme muscle movement, the Botox helps the Restylane last longer. It’s a synergistic effect that seems to prolong the positive effects of both.

How long will the results of a Restylane treatment last?

Restylane effects last between six and nine months. With a timed program of injections, you can see effects for up to 18 months.

Will Restylane work for me if I have facial hollows?

Restylane is an excellent wrinkle filler and lip volumizer, but like any filler, it has limitations. If you are experiencing the hollowness in your face that comes with fat loss (again, a natural result of aging for many women and men), you may want to explore a re-volumizer like Sculptra.

Sculptra is a collagen-promoting micro-particle implant that is injected deep in your skin. Results are not immediate, as it takes a number of months to become fully evident, but the replaced fullness is very long lasting.

Prior to a Restylane treatment, you should avoid taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication or vitamin E supplements unless recommended by your doctor. If in doubt, please check with your primary physician before stopping any medications. read more about Restylane on the Restylane USA website.

The first and only FDA-approved products for lip enhancement

Setting the standard in lip enhancement
Restylane® and Restylane-L® are the first and only FDA-approved products for lip enhancement in patients over 21 years. And that’s great news—because who doesn’t want beautiful lips?

  • Restylane is uniquely formulated to give your lips fullness and definition
  • Restylane treatments can subtly enhance your lips
  • Restylane provides natural-looking and lasting results with just one treatment—for up to 6 months
  • Restylane gives you a level of correction you can’t get with cosmetics
Why choose Restylane or Restylane-L for lips

It’s only natural with all this focus on lips, that lipstick is one of the most-purchased cosmetics. It’s also natural to want to enhance the appearance of our lips if we feel that their shape or proportions are not well matched to our unique facial structure. Plus, as we age, our lips may lose volume. And using makeup to hide these flaws often has limited results. That’s why using Restylane for lips poses many benefits for lip enhancement, including:

  • Restylane is non–animal-based, so there’s no need for allergy testing
  • Treatment with Restylane usually takes less than an hour (individual treatment times vary)
  • You and your doctor can decide on your treatment goals together, to help you achieve the look you desire and see lasting results up to 6 months

Now may be the right time to consider seeing us at Defy Nature for  Restylane—you’ll get lips that say “you”—beautiful, natural looking, and just the way you want.

Voluma, a Unique New Filler, Gets FDA Approval

Juvéderm Voluma XC—Voluma for short—is the first filler approved by the FDA to claim it can “temporarily correct age-related volume loss in the cheek area of adults over the age of 21.”

What’s the secret to a youthful face? Smooth curves and full cheeks – two things that age so cruelly takes away. Never fear, with the release of Juvéderm Voluma XC, you can now volume to your face and regain that youthful appearance.
Used for cheek augmentation, Juvéderm Voluma XC is the first and only product designed to add volume to all areas of the cheeks: apex, apple and hollow. It can also be used to plump the chin and add definition to the jaw line.
Approved by the FDA in fall of 2013, Juvéderm Voluma XC adds actual volume to the cheeks and mid-face, letting you defy gravity with natural looking results. This product has been used very successfully in Europe since 2005, and it’s finally available in the United States.
Like other Juvéderm products, Juvéderm Voluma XC is a non-surgical, injectable gel. The difference is that Voluma is a volumizer rather than a filler, and it plumps the skin from the subdermal layer. While other products can help fill lines and smooth wrinkles, Juvéderm Voluma XC is the only treatment in the world that was developed specifically to restore facial volume.

Juvéderm Voluma Defy Nature FAQs

What makes Juvéderm Voluma XC different?

While other dermal fillers are used primarily to fill in lines and plump only surface areas like the lips, Juvéderm Voluma is the first and only product that was specifically developed to add volume underneath the skin. Because it is used subdermally, Juvéderm Voluma plumps from below, adding firmness and fullness back to the cheeks, chin and jaw.
A cousin of Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus , the Voluma product was created with different technology that allows it to actually lift and volumize skin while also lasting longer than other injectable products.
Although Voluma is different from other dermal fillers, it was not intended to replace them. Voluma has a job separate from other products like Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus. While Voluma volumizes and plumps, Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus fill lines and wrinkles. Used together, these two types of dermal products create a dramatic difference.

How long will Juvéderm Voluma XC last?

Results from a Juvéderm Voluma treatment are immediate, and typically only one treatment is needed for optimal results. Clinical studies have shown Juvéderm Voluma to last as long as two years before maintenance was needed, however, you can probably expect it to last between 12 and 18 months.

Who should get Juvéderm Voluma XC?

Juvéderm Voluma is an ideal solution to facial volume loss. Hollowness, drooping and sagging caused by age or weight loss as well as facial asymmetry can all be corrected with a Juvéderm Voluma treatment.

Does Juvéderm Voluma XC Hurt?

During treatment, patients will feel an initial prick, but Juvéderm Voluma contains a small amount of lidocaine, which should diminish discomfort. A topical anesthetic can be applied to the injection area before treatment begins to offer additional relief.
Is there any downtime with Juvéderm Voluma XC? There is little to no downtime with a Juvéderm Voluma treatment, and you can resume normal activity immediately. It’s best to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and sun exposure for 24 hours after treatment. You may experience tenderness, swelling, lumps or bumps, bruising, redness or itching at the site of injection, but all symptoms are mild to moderate and will clear up within one to four weeks.

Will a Juvéderm Voluma XC Treatment Make Me Look Fake or Unnatural?

Juvéderm Voluma imparts a very natural look. It’s made from hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that occurs naturally in your body. Your face will still have complete movement, and the change will be subtle. Friends and coworkers will probably mention that you look great and think you’ve been sleeping better.

What is the best way to prepare for a Juvéderm Voluma XC treatment?

Before a Juvéderm Voluma treatment, avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding (aspirin, NSAIDs and Fish Oil) for at least a week. This will help reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

Will Juvéderm Voluma XC work on darker skin?

Like Juvederm XC, Juvéderm Voluma has been shown to be safe and effective for all skin types and colors.
There’s a younger you inside and Juvéderm Ultra Plus is just one of the ways Radiance Medspa can help bring it out.
